2021 McClatchy Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees
Restore the Roar, the organization supporting McClatchy Athletics, is pleased to announce the 2021 Inductees into the C. K. McClatchy Athletic Hall of Fame. All candidates except for those honored in the posthumous category (see below) are recognized by the votes of current Hall of Fame members.
The group is highlighted by the new inductees from the 2000-2005 graduates that includes: a former Major League Baseball Pitcher, Vance Worley; two top-flight Collegiate Tennis players, Emily DeCamilla, and Eric Roberson; a record setting college soccer star, Jennifer(Borcich) Cole; four former record-setting Lion Basketball standouts, Aaron Lawrence, Jessica Kunisaki, Kimiyo Hirada, and Amy Swartz, and outstanding golfer, Katie Loncke. Jessica Kunisaki was also the Head Coach of the 2015, McClatchy Women’s Basketball, Division 1 State Championship Team.
There are also six legacy candidates voted in who graduated from McClatchy prior to 2000: Distance Track star, Bert Nichols (1964): Three-sport athletes, Charlie Barr (1968), and Anthony Watson (1974), Tennis standout, Steve Glazer (1975), Baseball All-Star Jeremy Fuller (1994), and record setting swimmer, Janelle Hose (1999).
The Hall of Fame Committee also honored four athletes posthumously for had a record of outstanding accomplishments both at McClatchy and beyond their years at McClatchy. Those individuals are John Matulich (1948) in basketball, coaching and school administration; Mel Grable (1956) in baseball and coaching; Terry Nelson (1964) in baseball, basketball, and military service; and Rob Jones (1969) in swimming, water polo and school administration.
Hall of Fame voters also selected the 1989 Lion Football team which was the last team undefeated in Metro League play and featured future NFL receiver Malcolm (Seabron) Floyd and Sac State Star Pedro Lewis.
