Sunday Night Roar(s)
September 29, 2024: Our Disney-inspired Homecoming week came to a base-thumping close last night at the dance. We had 1,400 students attend the dance, moving between the gym for DJ dancing, the food court patio for snacking, and the upper patio for silent disco partying. Attendees were dressed to impress, with many arriving in Disney-themed attire!
September 22, 2024: We had a fabulous Friday night at Hughes – big wins vs. Kennedy, with incredible school spirit. Our crowd was double the size of Kennedy – a tribute to the collective school spirit spurred by ASB, spirit squads, musicians, and of course our players and coaches.

Last week, we bid one of McClatchy’s most legendary educators, Malcolm Floyd, farewell as he embarks on his principalship at Bowling Green McCoy Elementary School. Staff organized a gathering to induct him into the CKM Hall of Fame and dedicate the new football/soccer scoreboard to him. Our Pacific Islanders United dancers honored him with a special dance, candy, and flower leis at lunch. It was a special day for our community to celebrate his contributions to our school community and acknowledge his humility, kindness, and steady leadership.

We moved into a more routine school pattern last week, and students are settling into their classes and various activities. Club Rush saw over 50 clubs in the lunch quad on Thursday, with cultural, identity-affirming, community service-minded, and academically centered clubs seeking new members. ASB and Leo the Lion did a great job facilitating this annual showcase of our school community clubs. We also hosted our first home football game at Huges Stadium Friday night against Rio Americano. While we did not get the “W,” we showed incredible try-hard athleticism and BIG RED school spirit.
