CKM hosts a magnet Humanities and International Studies Program (HISP). Selection for HISP—an open enrollment opportunity district-wide—is highly competitive and entails additional requirements, including an essay exam, submission of transcripts, test scores, and teacher recommendations.

The nationally recognized Air Force Junior ROTC works with students who desire to develop leadership potential. This open-enrollment program provides an outstanding scholastic program in the areas of aero-dynamics, science, history and cultural awareness. Building self-esteem through practice and through responsibility is a prime factor to which students are attracted.
Nationally, the AFJROTC program provides citizenship training and an aerospace science program at the high school level. Units are located at just under 900 high schools across the United States and at selected U.S. Department of Defense schools in Europe, the Pacific and Puerto Rico.

This magnet academy includes all basic high school course requirements plus specialized training in the field of law enforcement. Students will study the basic course materials used by those in training to be police cadets. Additionally, the curriculum covers investigative procedures, forensic science, physical training and principles of the law.
The Criminal Justice Academy is offered through a partnership with the Sacramento Police Department. Students will be provided opportunities to explore the broad range of careers within the field of criminal justice during their enrollment in the program. Many students will be eligible to apply for the position of Public Service Aide with the SacPD, while continuing their education at a local college or university, possibly leading to a position as a sworn officer or full time civilian position with the City of Sacramento.

CKM is honored to host SCUSD’s magnet program, the Law and Public Policy Academy (LPPA). The LPPA will provide students with a means to explore the broad range of careers within the field of law. Their courses at CKM will be taught through the lens of the legal system.
Students in LPPA will learn from and work with many community partners in the field of law, such as McGeorge and UC Davis Schools of Law, working judges and lawyers, as well as paralegals, court reporters and legislative aides. McClatchy Law and Public Policy graduates will be prepared to take leadership roles in the world of law or in other circles of influence.
The mission of VAPA is to promote higher academic achievement, develop marketable career skills, encourage continued education, and enhance the quality of life in our community through the Arts. Within VAPA, students will be provided with opportunities to explore careers within the broad fields of art, entertainment, and media; to understand the relationship between academic success and success in the workplace; and to develop the necessary skills to sustain a meaningful career in their chosen field. The experiences and training students receive VAPA will give them a solid educational foundation and prepare them for continued education and future career opportunities. Our graduates will be creative contributors to society and a positive influence within the community.
